Email & SMS
LBM sends invoices, reminders, password resets...
LBM sends invoices, reminders, password resets, ticket replies and more by email, and can send SMS for events you choose. Set this up early: an install that cannot send email looks broken to its clients.
The mail server #
Open Settings > Mail. Every outgoing email is sent through the server set here.
- Driver:
smtp(a mail server) orsendmail(the server's own mail program). - Host and port of your SMTP server.
- Encryption:
tls,sslornone. Prefertls(port 587) orssl(port 465). - Username and password for the SMTP account.
- From address and From name: who emails appear to come from.
Use the Save and send a test email button and check that it arrives.
Use an address on your own domain as the From address, and add the SPF and DKIM records your mail provider gives you. Without them many receivers file invoices as spam.
Email history and the queue #
- Every email and text sent to a client is kept, so staff can read and resend it from the client's page. Settings > Mail lets you keep them for a number of days or for ever. Failed ones are always kept.
- Email is queued and sent by the scheduler, so the cron line must be running. The Mail queue screen shows what is waiting.
Email templates #
Settings > Email templates holds the wording of every email the system sends. Each template has a name such as invoice-created.
- Templates are in English. Edit the text to write in another language, or add a copy for a language by adding it to the name:
invoice-created.fr. - Use the placeholders shown beside each template; they are filled in when the email is sent.
SMS and notifications #
Settings > Notifications chooses which SMS gateway sends notifications and holds the wording of each event. With no SMS gateway chosen, nothing is sent. The SMS gateways in your release are listed there; switch one on and enter its account.
Mass email #
Operations > Mass email sends one message to many clients. It can use a bulk provider (Brevo, Mailgun, SendGrid or Amazon SES, if those modules are in your release) chosen there. Your normal email still goes through Settings > Mail.
