LBM needs a licence key
LBM needs a licence key. The installer asks for it, sends it to our licence server together with your site's address, and goes on once the server confirms it.
Kinds of key #
| Kind | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Trial | Try LBM on your real address. It works like any other key. When you buy, the same key carries on: nothing is reinstalled. |
| Production | A live, paid install. |
| Developer | A staging or test copy that goes with a production licence. Not for live billing. |
Ask for a free trial key on the trial page.
What a key is tied to #
The first time a key is used it is bound to:
- your domain,
- the directory LBM is installed in, and
- the server it runs on (its IP address).
So one key runs one install. To move, see Moving to another server or domain.
When no licence is needed #
- A developer's own machine:
localhost, and addresses ending in.testor.local, need no licence. - A development build, which checks none.
How the check works #
- LBM checks its licence once a day, and whenever staff sign in.
- It sends the licence key, your domain and install directory, the LBM version and a random id made on your install. Nothing about your clients, money or staff.
- If the licence server cannot be reached, the last good answer stands. After 7 days without an answer you get a warning; after 14 days, changes in the admin stop.
- While changes are stopped you can still read every screen, enter a key and run an update. Billing, payments, provisioning, scheduled tasks and the client area keep running whatever the licence says.
Your licence is shown under Settings > Utilities > Licence, with a Check now button.
Tip
Keep your licence key somewhere safe, with your vault key (see Installing LBM). You will need it again if you reinstall.
